Through the tears I lost me

Through the heartaches I lost me

I turned around and saw my footprints scattered in various directions, with no clear path

to follow or return to

I lost me in the misunderstandings

I lost me when I betrayed my soul and followed what my heart believed to be true

I lost me as friends begin to drift away during my difficult times

I lost me when I reached out for a hand to hold

I lost me, realizing no one understood of where I was standing and why

Sitting and looking for the me I couldn’t find

Looking at the me that was left behind

I heard a whisper that spoke softly, “Look again”

With a fresh vision, I saw I wasn’t lost

The misunderstandings gave me insight for a new way of seeing.

What appeared to be a betrayal was my soul making a correction in my heart.

My friends were seasonal and even though they left at a difficult time in my life, their season had come to an end. I now understood that holding any hand can lead me down the wrong path without a shared understanding of why we are hand in hand.

By losing myself, I discovered newness, a fresh start within me, as I “Looked again”.

It’s hard sometimes to see when you are hurting or disappointed or both. However, if we can stop and see, we know we have lived yet another day. How we choose to live another day will depend on how we see our self through what appears to be stained glasses.

It will always be up to us to move on, no matter whose fault it appears or actually is at fault. We have to stop putting our appeared outcome in other people's hand. Regardless of the events that unfolded, we are ultimately left with ourselves. We are always left with self, and life will move on with or without us.
