Discussion: “Believe in Miracles”

As we approach the holiday season, my mind began to focus on the awesomeness of life. Life is simply a miracle that we as humans can barely understand or comprehend the intricate details of. How is it we go to sleep at night and wake up in the morning, most times without an alarm clock or someone waking us? This is something I ponder regularly. If you have never wondered about this yourself, I bet you will contemplate it now.
My daughter Samantha was a very inquisitive child. As she was growing up, she would always ask questions like this. “What wakes us up when we sleep? Why is the sky blue? What makes the heartbeat?” or “When you lose weight, where does it go”? Now she has 2 little guys that are just like her and now she is the one being questioned. I’m enjoying the payback… LOL. I spent a great deal of time in her younger years searching dictionaries or telling her to look it up.
However, many of her questions were un-explainable, because they are the miracles of life. “Where do miracles come from?” Yes, I even tried to explain miracles to her. My searching for both a satisfactory answer and for a logical source at times was frustrating for us both. Trying to help her understand that the source of miracles is a divine, supernatural power that comes from God is not a simple thing. You can imagine how many times I got the wide-eyed deer caught in the headlights look, followed by more questions
.
You see miracles aren’t usually explainable. Because you can only see how everything is normal and abides by the laws of nature. Or if you allow yourself, you can see things for the incredible miracles they are. Choosing to see things as a miracle ties a sense of awe, amazement, wonderment, and curiosity into your environment. It makes you pause more often and be mindful of the incredible complexity that exists within everything.
Now, as the years have gone by, even I have come to see miracles in a different light. A miracle is an event which creates faith. That is the purpose and nature of miracles. We must remember that we do not perform miracles. It is the Holy Spirit within us that will perform those miracles. The Holy Spirit is the power by which miracles take place. As Christians, we are given the authority to use that power as long as we are acting within our responsibilities as Christians.
What Are Those Responsibilities?
Our responsibilities as Christians is that of Praise and Thanksgiving, showing gratitude. It's part of the ethical foundation of world religions that people are morally obligated to give thanks to their God and to each other. It sounds complicated, but it’s not!
Gratitude, thankfulness or gratefulness, from the Latin word gratus, meaning "pleasing" or "thankful". A feeling of appreciation by a recipient of another's kindness, gifts, help, favors, or other form of generosity to the giver of such gifts.
No matter how much you have or don’t have, by practicing one thing, “Gratitude” you’ll have a deeper sense of fulfillment. Gratitude offers you the opportunity to attract miracles, opportunity and possibility; it’s all throughout the Scriptures and it’s the reason we gather in churches on Sunday mornings around the world. Our lives give us a daily opportunity to say “Thank you” to the Lord of life and to those He has placed around us. When we do that, we open ourselves up to a flood of good things. You see, a grateful person is a magnet for millions of miracles!
So begin with Gratitude and Watch the Miracles Flow Your Way.
Change Your Perspective
Miracles happen every day. When you change your perception of what a miracle is and you'll see them all around you. We still find healing and other miracles in the world today, though they aren't always dramatic and aren't always spoken of publicly. That is often because those whom are the recipients of them hold them sacred. Look for miracles in your life or the lives of your family members and ancestors. I promise you, when you look in the mirror there is a miracle staring back at you!
Thanksgiving is upon us, and for most of us in the U.S., that means lots of food, family and prayers of gratitude and thanksgiving. But what if the miracles we’ve prayed for this year, the things we were sure would happen… never did? How can we be grateful for the things that didn’t come our way? Some days it's tough to feel genuine gratitude, or hard to find anything to be grateful for at all. In those times, try focusing on the benevolence of others. When we focus on the good that people do for us, it strengthens our sense of self-regard and self-worth. Basically, how we see things will dictate our overall outcome. It’s all in the mind, body and soul.
“Miracles happen to those who believe in them.”- Bernard Berenson.
“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.”- Albert Einstein.
Prayer
God, I commit to becoming a person of gratitude. Thank you for all that you are and for the many blessings you have brought into my life.
Reflection
What are some practical ways you can put gratitude into practice in your daily life?
