Discussion: “Do You Seek PEACE On PURPOSE?”

John 16:33… “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
How do you find peace amid the chaos and confusion of the heart, mind, soul, and world?
If you're going to live in peace, it's not going to happen by accident! Every day, we have opportunities to get upset or to be offended. LIFE happens, people get on your nerves, unexpected bills, a family member is in the hospital. Children don’t want to act right; they cut class, are disrespectful or are rebellious. Your spouse wants to fight and the folks on your job have attitudes because they have to come to work. If all that is not enough, the struggles of your own physical, mental, and emotional frustrations are weighing you down, causing you not to sleep at night. When all of those areas are off, I can almost guarantee that you’re wrestling in the spiritual realm as well.
And yet you tell yourself, “I can’t wait until all my issues and unforeseen circumstances calm down, then I’ll have peace, and can stop worrying.”
Well, guess what? You'll be waiting your whole life to be free of issues and unforeseen circumstances.
Listen, God never promised that HE would keep us from difficulties. He never said that we wouldn't have storms, but he said He would give us peace in the midst of the storms.
He calls it "A peace that surpasses ALL understanding". That means, despite what's going on around you..."The medical report wasn't good, but I'm not worried I know God has me in the palm of his hand"
"I didn't get the promotion that I worked for and felt I deserved, but I'm not upset. I know God is my provider and something better is coming my way"…"My co-worker was rude to me, But I'm not offended. God is my vindicator"
See, you have to protect your peace. You weren't created to live worried, uptight, frustrated and on edge. Daily we have to seek PEACE on PURPOSE because we are so easily distracted by life. Every up, down, or even a change in season anxiety that might set in and we find ourselves amid turmoil.
This is the reason many people have health issues: they can't sleep at night, their food won't digest, they have ulcers, gain weight, lose weight, hair falling out. Even their sex life is affected. Because their mind is never at rest. They're constantly trying to figure everything out. Worried about their health, wealth and everything else that could upset what they do or don’t have. Where they can or can’t go and pretty soon they will be stressed out over the holidays.
We weren’t meant to be in turmoil all the time. So how do we obtain peace on purpose?
I have a few tips to share that help me…
Don't give up~
One thing about storms, they don’t last forever. So don’t give up! Every time you weather a storm, you are building muscles (metaphorically speaking). Not only are you are getting stronger, but you grow wiser, and you learn more life lessons.
Don't forget the power God has given us~
God has given us the power to fight our storms. That Power is Him. He has promised to fight our biggest battles for us. All we have to do is humble ourselves and call on Him. Speak life and peace into your storm. You really have the power to bring every storm in your life under submission.
Don't fuel your storm~
When we aren’t getting what we feel, feeling we deserve, owed or when everything is going wrong, it is so easy to throw in the towel. To get angry and quit. Try to focus on the positive. What are you avoiding by not getting everything you want? Imagine if you could purchase that new car, like the red Audi your best friend just got. But in your case you were turned down. Little did you know that very make and model were part of a bad run and the recalls demanded that the vehicle be pulled from the road. You were saved from being without transportation; because you weren’t able to trade in your “Ole Faithful” that was already paid off. So you keep your low gas mileage Toyota Camry instead of getting the new hotness.
Trust The Process, no matter how difficult it is. When we take our time and allow life to reveal itself to us, we live in the present moment; realizing that we are exactly where we are supposed to be in the season we are in. Unfortunately, a lot of us jump too far forward. In our desire to reach our final destination, we forget about the journey, not realizing the journey is where the magic lies. The journey is where we learn about ourselves, along with life lessons that we can hand down to the next generation.
Let go of fear and stop trying to control life. As your faith strengthened, you find that you no longer feel the need to have a sense of control; Things will flow as they are supposed to, and you will flow with them. To have an overall sense of peace in the midst of whatever chaotic path you find yourself on.
Let’s stop attempting to gain control over what we know is beyond our control. Peace is the antidote to all our anxieties and concerns. It doesn’t change our circumstances, but it changes us.
“The life of inner peace, being harmonious and without stress, is the easiest type of existence.” — Norman Vincent Peale
