Discussion: Who’s Writing Your Story?

"The power of imagination created the illusion that my vision went much farther than the naked eye could actually see." - Nelson Mandela
Who is writing your story? As you move throughout the day, throughout your life, what are you hearing from within? Are the pictures in your mind taken from some event in the past and is still carried to this very day? And now when it sees something familiar, it reacts to it. Just like we had imaginary friends in our childhood, as adults some are still carrying some of those imaginary friends.
When you stop for a moment and take an inventory of your life; what stands out and who has contributed to where you are in life now? As you look at the stages of your life, who do you see as the principal writer? Does your life show what you know is truly inside of you? The voice of the writer who said you will go far in life. You are going to do great things in life. I’m so proud of you.
Google: "Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution."
Are you playing the role someone else wrote for you? Is it the same person who says nothing positive to you? Is it someone who has set your life on the course of a victim to play out on life’s stage? Is it someone who left physical and mental marks that you carry in your life album?
I think about my early years of working in a private psychiatric hospital. I listened to people talk about their dreams and what they wanted to accomplish in life. I listened as they talked about where they thought they would be at this juncture in life. I held their hands as they described where they were as they opened their life album. As they talked about how they were living out another writer’s story of their life. Another writer, whose script had dominated their life. The other writer, who had sexually abused them as a child and how they still feel no self-worth. Ones who spoke over their life daily for many years, telling them they would be nothing in life. I looked in their eyes as they affirmed “Well I guess they were right, just look at me!”
I can only observe as they are choosing to live by the script someone else wrote for their lives. This amazing person sitting before me who is expressing their talents and skills. Yet, struggle through daily living. Who wears an outward sign of their behavior (actions) that says, “I’m not worthy!” or “look at me, I’m a victim?”
I think how the abuser wrote the story of the one they abused and then handed them the pen to write someone else's story.
It’s time to release the pen that is not yours. Pick up a new pen and rewrite your story. For some it will take small steps and for others they are ready for the giant step. For some, it will only be a minor change and for others, it will be a battle. Google: The degree of the battle is connected to the degree of the assignment or plainly speaking your purpose in life.
Age doesn’t play a role in your accomplishments in life, you do. Every day takes one day less from our lives. Decide now to be the author of your own life story.
What is now proved was once only imagined. William Blake.
